Government Grant Money For Small Business
Filed Under Starting A Business |
We Will Give If You Do-
Most federal grants are awarded to organizations planning major projects of benefit to their community. Government grant money can be given to projects such as some type of natural disaster relief, or to help revive an economy that has dwindled, or some other community endeavor. Government grant money, for small business, is required to meet strict oversight performance standards during the whole process such as expenditures must be strictly accounted for and detailed audits are performed by the government annually.
All granted funds must be spent or the money not spent goes back to the Treasury. Detailed program goals must be developed, approved and performed as specified in the grant application. The government is so picky that a project change must be approved by the government. It gets better because all project phases must be completed on time. And, of course, the project must be successfully completed.
Follow The Rules Or Else-
What becomes even more complicated is the penalties for not following the guidelines. This is where people get in trouble because they are watched very aggressively. There are economic penalties and even more trouble that can happen if the money is used improperly. Potentially it could result in jail time if severe enough. Basically this is a very serious matter even if you are accepted. It requires a lot of dedication and commitment. Failure is really not an option even if you are somehow able to be approved for a government grant for a small business.
Most government grants are often awarded to other federal agencies, states, cities, colleges and universities, and research organizations. So if you have a good idea then you should apply it at a local university that you can attend. Few individuals have the money and experience necessary to prepare adequate applications for federal grants. Most active grant-seekers will hire full time staffs to do nothing but apply for and administer federal grants. Most start up businesses can’t do that because they don’t have the manpower.
Don’t Get Discouraged-
It is really best if you look at some other avenues unless you are looking to help out the community in some way. At the same time it is worth your time to look at a government grant application process to see what it takes to be approved for help. You may never know how good your idea is until you pass it by others for financial support. Do your research now to see if it is worth you time. Look forward to more posts on this subject.
