How Disabilities Open Doors To More Abilities

What is amazing is that many of them feel the same. They have such strong faith and hope. I am astounded by it. I spoke with a man that was a computer consultant over the phone and he revealed to me that he was blind. I was shocked because I was trying to figure out how he was a consultant for a computer. I thought to myself it must be hard to read a screen.
He then mentioned to me that he can read anything in text, not graphics, through a braille system that was set up. He now teaches young children or people that have recently become blind on how to use this system and implement it in their lives. Think of the impact that he is making with his life and his internet business opportunity.
Disabilities of the Able
He told me of how people feel uncomfortable when they found out he is blind or their perception changes about working with him in business, but he proves to them that he is just as capable as anyone else. One lady he met at the grocery store had this same hesitation. He enjoyed her company so he asked her, “Does my blindness make you feel awkward?”
She mentioned a little bit because she had little interaction with blind people. He responded by saying, “Come over for dinner tomorrow night and I will show you I am no different than anyone else.”
She came over to his house and he had a four course meal planned. She was deeply impressed by his ability and they became great friends. The lady is now his girlfriend! Amazing what a little tolerance can do.
My new friend mentioned that tolerance, knowledge, and compassion is what lacks in so many people’s minds and hearts. If they can open their minds then they will realize how impressive people with disabilities are. He mentioned something that stuck with me, those that lack in tolerance are really the ones with disabilities.
I feel that is true for so many of us in our own lives. We allow for these enormous disabilities to effect our capabilities. It goes unresolved because we hide it or we are embarrassed about it, but when we see people with physical problems we easily judge them. I have learn a valuable lesson, every person on this Earth has a lesson they can teach me, it is up to me to accept it and learn from it.

Cade, what an enlightening article and so true. Many so-called not handicapped people are much more handicapped that a person with disabilities. It all comes down to what is our attitude toward the life that we live. We all can be really amazing in our abilities. We just have to know that God is working through us. I found your article through the Personal Stories Of Change Blog Carnival: Edition 2.
I went to university with a friend who was blind. I guess the braille readers back then were less powerful, but he made it through OK. I wonder if you had a large braille type surface you could display low resolution b&w pictures that someone could ‘feel’?
