Branding Can Save A Business Customer Marriage
There are so many choices out there of companies that try to appeal to you. It is common to feel very overwhelmed. On the other end as business owners this clash of competition results in many businesses trying to blanket many demographics. Very few companies do it well and if they do it because of deep pockets.
One of the first steps to learn with a business is that you don’t have to be perfect with this business. I swear (and I know this sounds funny because I do advocate this in many examples) that many entrepreneurs think way too big with their small business opportunity. You can think big in the terms of your success, but make it easy, small and simple in the terms of how you are going to get there. If you do that then you will never question what you are doing, what you or your employees should focus on and then what type of demographic you are going after with your branding.
Abercrombie Vs. Hot Topic Branding
A simple example of this is walking down the hallway of a large mall. Look in the windows of any store. You look at Abercrombie and then take a look at Hot Topic. Both have targeted a younger generation with clothing, but they even narrowed it down further than that. Abercrombie goes after the jock and Hot Topic goes after the “goth kid”. There is nothing wrong with any of that.
Abercrombie isn’t going to go after the Hot Topic kid and Hot Topic isn’t going to go after the Abercrombie kid. Not only are they targeting their type of client, but even more importantly they are not doing anything that is going to offend them from coming back. They have played to the clicks of the youth in America. The Abercrombie kid can go where he feels full of pride and popular with his other Abercrombie freinds and the Hot Topic kid can go where he isn’t annoyed by the ignorant Abercrombie kid. A perfect match.
Find out who your proper client is and protect them from the dangers in the world. They have to enter your place or web site feeling comfortable and satisfied. It is like an oasis that they can escape to during their daily existence in the desert. You will have a happier customer with less service issues and in the end become a lot more profitable with the right customer.
