When Things Don’t Go The Way You Expected With Your Business
-Sumner Redstone, CBS & Viacom owner
I think one of the worst things that we do is that we feel that failure means the end. It is the end of our attempts and we give up willingly because we hate to be embarrased. We think that people that are successful do that from the beginning and will always do that. I think that is crap.
You will fail and enjoy it! You need to fail (not all the time) but it is good for you. It is just another step to success. For some that might mean a couple more steps to that success, but realize your failures are always blessings. I don’t care what your excuse is, it happened and study it.
When you can decide in your mind that a failure is really not failure, but just another experience in life then you will be closer to success than 99% of the people out there.
I remember one time when I was selling door-to-door for a security system company and I didn’t like the job to begin with, but I started to get a little better and I remember that this guy trained me and then took the a deal from out under my nose while we were supposed to be working to help me. Well that didn’t happen and I got frustrated.
I figured I would move on and just keep trying. I then got a load of deals on this street and started to think that I was really something. I then went back on the street and found out four deals were pulled because this sweet old lady was told to cancel by her son. She decided that I was from the devil and went door to door herself telling people while they should cancel.
I decided from that day on I would never do this job again and probably never do sales again. I hated the job, the heat, the rejection, and the angry Golden Girl. I could not take it any more.
Funny thing happened, I got another sales job two years later after I said I never would do that again. I faced even more adversity with this job and was almost fired a couple times. I was terrible.
I then realized that no matter how bad it got I was going to be successful because I knew that this was going to help eventually with my own business some day. Well now I have turned it around and have become successful.
If it wasn’t for that old Doris I would never be here today. I would never have found this job and my eventual business. Be appreciative of your blessings because they come in ways you would least expect it.
