How Do We Ignore So Much Pain?
Bill Gates, Microsoft Founder and philanthropist
I wonder if people knew how selfish they are? I know that I am pretty selfish and I thought of this today as I saw out of all movies, guess what…Gone With The Wind. You probably are thinking I am getting emotional about life or something and probably had one too many chocolates watching Rhett and Scarlett, but it is really catastrophic what war and poverty can do to people. It is even worse what people don’t do to help.
We have opportunities to make differences in lives, but we are too concerned with our own self image, which really means very litte in the long term plan of things since we are all going to die. I figure that you might as well die trying to make a difference. What if you help people to live a little longer and enjoy more time with their family? What if you give some child a chance to eat food and experience the joy of breathing air that you have been blessed with for so many years? These are good questions I hope you can answer in your life and take seriously.

A very valid point. I think in truth, many people would never even consider the answers to these questions because the cannot even begin to appreciate the magnitude of the problem. Sadly, the widespread Not In My Back Yard attitude seems to have given people something to hide behind. I do not know what it would take for people to actually realise the severity of the situation. Good post; if not inspired by something a little random!!
