How To Tie The Knot With The Best Home Based Business Opportunities

Is trying to find a business like trying to find the right relationship?
Evaluating the best home business opportunities is like trying to find a spouse. I am not married and have dated for many years, so you might be asking yourself, “What does this clown know about finding a business if he can’t find a spouse?”
Well stop and think about how many business owners have great personal lives and you might reconsider that question. Second no matter what my success rate is, I still think I have learned a thing or two about relationships and how you can apply those virtues to business. I hope no ex girlfriends read this…
Don’t You Think I’m Sexy?
People often struggle with relationships simply because they don’t know what they want. I have personally dated enough to make the owners of eHarmony blush. I find myself not being interested with any girl because my focus is more physical instead of thinking “Is this chick going to be fun or nightmare when I am 65?”
I only say this because people join business opportunities because they are sexy. Biz Opp addicts lust after sexy phrases like “work 10 hours a week for a guaranteed $20,000 a month!” or “This turnkey system is so easy that you don’t have to do anything, even a dead emu could make millions!” or “We will offer you the ultimate secret to making money if you lick 25 envelopes and send it on to five friends.”
Getting caught up in this hype will be the death knell of your bank account. I promise you. If you chase after the sexy girl you are going to be a chaser forever.
News Flash: Don’t be a creeper! They won’t respect you because you have no self dignity and you will find nothing but heartache.
Find a business with substance that is going to like you for you! Make sure that they are interested in more in your entrepreneurial experience than if you have a pulse. Look for money back guarantees, a solid brand, and good marketing and customer service support.
Nothing Wrong With Asking Around
In the end you will have to make your own decision on a spouse, but there is nothing wrong with getting advice on the matter from trusted objective sources like friends and family members. They can play a big roll in helping you to be a little more realistic instead of getting too head over heals.
Also they can help you to see benefits that you might not have thought of. Learn as much as you can about this person from others and personal interaction before you make the plunge.
When you approach a business ask other home based business owners that have a similar or the same business. The business opportunity representative should provide you with references and data showing how you can be successful. Also you can check with the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General to see if there are any skeletons in the closet.
Set Some Rules
With any relationship there has to be guidelines. A marriage is a commitment legally, emotionally, physically, and every other aspect. If you have realistic similar goals then your experience is going to be comforting, joyous, and exciting.
The same goes for starting a business. You need to find out how strong their integrity is and if you can trust them when the crap hits the fan.
I suggest you check with your state government on these guidelines, but here are many of the general laws that most states in the United States adhere to thanks to Entrepreneur.com:
1. A business opportunity involves the sale or lease of any product, service, equipment, etc. that will enable the purchaser-licensee to begin a business.
2. The licensor or seller of a business opportunity declares that it will secure or assist the buyer in finding a suitable location or provide the product to the purchaser-licensee.
3. The licensor-seller guarantees an income greater than or equal to the price the licensee-buyer pays for the product when it’s resold and that there is a market present for the product or service.
4. The initial fee paid to the seller in order to start the business opportunity must range between $400 and $1,000.
5. The licensor-seller promises to buy back any product purchased by the licensee-buyer in the event it cannot be sold to the prospective customers of the business.
6. Any products or services developed by the seller-licensor will be purchased by the licensee-buyer.
7. The licensor-seller of the business opportunity will supply a sales or marketing program for the licensee-buyer that many times will include the use of a trade name or trademark.
In order to be a business opportunity venture under the FTC rule, four guidelines must be followed:
1. The individual who buys a business opportunity, often referred to as a licensee or franchisee, must distribute or sell goods or services supplied by the licenser or franchisor.
2. The licensor or franchisor must help secure a retail outlet or accounts for the goods and services the licensee is distributing or selling.
3. There must be a cash transaction between the two parties of at least $500 prior to or within six months after the licensee or franchisee starts the business venture.
4. All terms and conditions of the relationship between the licensor and the licensee must be stated in writing.
Both FTC and state laws show one common trait: there is a mutual relationship between the buyer and the seller that continues even after the commitment (sale), which is similar to a franchise. When someone sells their business independently to a buyer they have no more obligation and the buyer has no responsibility to the previous business model or the brand.
Give And Take
With these business opportunity rules, there comes either great penalties or great rewards, and it all depends on if they are followed or not. Relationships are based on a similar level of trust and positive support from one person to the next.
I remember reading a study where a relationship expert followed several couples for twenty years and noticed one big difference between the couples that stayed together and those that were divorced. Could you guess what it is? It was simply positive reinforcements.
He followed this up by saying it wasn’t her dishes to clean and his lawn to mow, but it was their dishes and their lawn to take care of. Simply put, look for a business owner that is going to go the distance with you and help educate you.
They need to provide you with marketing support, customer service assistance, accounting guidance, legal suggestions, and many other important nuggets of wisdom because your success is their success.
Don’t Give Into Pressure
Often you will hear “limited time offers” and “only a couple spots left”. You are often required to prove yourself “commitment” faster than when you are ready. Now there is a level of truth to this, each person needs to step up to the plate and take action one way or the other because you can’t leave a relationship in limbo forever. That isn’t healthy. At the same time you have to feel wanted and needed. We all do.
I remember a girl I was absolutely crazy about. I thought I was going to marry her and I would have done anything for her. If she asked me to jump off a building my response would have been, “Which one?”
As time went on we grew farther apart and I became crazily desperate. I would do anything to keep her. I would put up with her put downs. I would overlook her weaknesses and lack of commitment toward me because I saw only what I wanted her to be and not what she truly was. I was miserable.
You can’t make a business opportunity into something that it isn’t, especially when you are the licensee and don’t have autonomy. You feel forced into something because it is sexy, or you feel you might miss out on a chance in a lifetime, or you don’t want to let anyone down.
Lust, fear and pride are not good enough excuses. You have to be enthusiastic about your business and excited each and every day to work at it.
Look In The Mirror
The last step and maybe the first step is to make sure you are ready. You can’t think selfishly about this. Often I see friends jump into relationships because of fear of what others may think or because they just want the selfish benefits of a relationship. It never turns out good and someone walks away with a broken heart.
Make a list of all the reasons you want to start a business whether good or bad. Go down the list and ask yourself this question on each of them, “Why is this important to me?”
You know your passions, your brightest dreams, and your darkest secrets. You have to ask yourself if you are doing this for short term gratification or for something that is sustainable that you will put your heart and mind into.
This is vital because you are committing your time and energy to a work from home business opportunity with potentially licensors, franchisors, customers, and you are possibly putting your family’s income on the line. Make sure you are ready and don’t leave your job just because you hate it or you would rather be watching Lost. Find a genuine purpose and maybe you might find that special someone…or thing.

I agreed and also believe any business takes committment and hard work. If you are not ready to work don’t start, but it will require hard work.
One must have dedication towards their work along with the commitment. You must work hard and strive well to improve the business.
I’ve seen a lot of people go into business without fully understanding what they are getting into. sure it takes determination but more than this.
Even the most determined person can fail, and they can fail by losing thier house and everything they own by being determined. this is also called being “dogminded”
Successful businesses are run by people that have carefully planned out their business goals, they know the strengths they have and where they need to outsource, they know the market and have proberly been in the industry sector or have linked information.
I know a lot of people go into business from a hobby to, I would say NO NO NO. Dont even try to do this, you will be emotionally tied and will not make sound decisions.
Anyway, I digress. Great article and nice blog!
